Different Mode Delay
When a single mode fiber optic signal is sent into multimode cable, due to the index of refraction anomalies along the centerline of the multimode fiber core, the highly concentrated single mode fiber light modes that propagate through the index of refraction anomalies spread out in time cause modal dispersion, this effect is called differential mode delay. Different mode delay will affect the performance of the network and reduce the bandwidth.
